Springbackers
A 3-day residency hosted by The Place Theatre, London, for Czech dance magazine editors. Co-ordinated by Daniela Machová (Dance Context Webzine) with Springback editor Sanjoy Roy. Czech participants: Daniela Machová, Petra Dotlačilová, Kristina Soukupová, Zuzana Rafajová.
The focus was not on writing, but rather on editing and publishing. Topics included:
- What is ‘editing’?
- Commissioning vs copy-editing
- Relations with writers
- Editing text written in a non-native language
- Publication formats
- Online, offline
- Reach and readership
We also had three guest speakers:
- Jon Gray, former editor of Dancing Times magazine (closed in 2022)
- David Jays, editor of Dance Gazette (Royal Academy of Dance member magazine), and of the programme brochures at Sadler’s Wells Theatre
- Suzanne Frost, Springbacker, PR manager at The Place Theatre, on writing and communicating in English as a second language
The Editorial Residency in London was supported by the European Union through the Czech National Recovery Plan and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
