In collaboration with Springback and supported by the British Council, Dance Bridges Festival hosted its first Dance Writing Workshop series facilitated by Dom Czapski (UK), who also performed at the festival. The workshop drew dance writers interested in developing their skills from Kolkata, Faridabad, New Delhi and Bangalore to engage in hybrid sessions, with an introductory online session, followed by in-person workshops over the course of the Dance Bridges festival.

Workshop outline: How do you write about something as ephemeral as dance? It vanishes as it happens, and writing about it tends to lead to the same tired words. This workshop will ask us to reframe critical dance writing not as a judgement call but as a process demanding serious engagement with art and writing. As New Yorker film reviewer Richard Brody put it, a review is ‘not a product but a process’.

Participants: Varshaa Ganesh, Somya Jatwani, Khushboo Kukreja, Sangram Mukhopadhyay
